Few directors are as respected and acclaimed as Martin Scorsese.

His newest movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, is his latest to earn him Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Picture. At 81, Scorsese is the oldest person to be nominated for the directing award, his 10^th shot at the particular trophy.

He is also the most nominated living director in the category, though the late William Wyler holds the overall record at 12.

“It’s so exciting,” Scorsese shared during a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“I mean you look back—10 nominations over the years, I honestly don’t know how that happened.
